Why is flow of current between electrochemical cells bad? I know its because the voltage falls to 0 and reactants are used up but what exactly is the current anyways

current is the flow of electrons.
so when the reactants are used up, all the electrons are in the products.
so there is no flow of electrons from the reactants to the products
