Oriel Pharmacy 2023 SJT

How is everyone revising for the SJT? I have no idea where to start and I’m freaking out
Hey I did my Oriel exam last year so here is my advice (I was able to get my 2nd option Hospital).

1) Familiarise yourself with the GPhC "Standards for Pharmacy Professionals". https://www.pharmacyregulation.org/standards/standards-for-pharmacy-professionals
In particular, focus on parts 1-4, and in your mind try and think of scenarios where you as a trainee pharmacist can demonstrate these traits. The first 4 standards are the ones most tested in the SJT test.

2) Do some SJT practice questions. I don't think I'm allowed to make product suggestions on this site, but yes if you were to look on Amazon for a "Pharmacy Situational Judgement test" book there was a book that I used (orange-ish front cover...) which is a good place to start. This book helped me as they are generally easier questions than the next resources I suggest. At the end of the book, there are the answers and the rationale behind it. Sometimes I didn't find myself agreeing with their rationale; perhaps in the latest addition there have been some minor changes...?

The next resource would be signing up to the free online Oriel Propharmace resource: https://propharmace.com/oriel/
This contains both questions for the SJT and calculations. There aren't many SJT questions from what I remember, but if you want you could also start with this before using the book I mentioned above.

Finally, after doing all those questions, I suggest another free resoruce, the lasepharmacy SJT and Numeracy questions, which can be found: https://www.lasepharmacy.hee.nhs.uk/national-recruitment/student-zone/sjt-and-numeracy-tests/
Regarding the SJT, these are more similar to the real exam, and there are a lot more questions than Propharmace. I suggest saving these questions until you feel up to the challenge of doing the whole thing under timed exam conditions. These will be more challenging but if you have done the book abd propharmace questions above, and revised the Standards for Pharmacy Professionals, hopefully you will have the experience to answer these well.

For SJT practice, I really recommend doing the questions independently, but at the same time as a friend. I found it was so useful to compare both our answers with the mark schemes, and together we could figure out and find rationale in how each question should be answered.
Also when doing the "rank from best to worst": it's easiest to first rank the obvious best and worst, then organise the middle 3 after. For the "pick 3", again I find it useful to first eliminate and obviously incorrect answers so you can focus on more sensible options.
This journal gives some good tips: https://pharmaceutical-journal.com/article/feature/oriel-situational-judgement-test-what-pharmacy-students-need-to-know

3) Obviously these free reosurces I mentioned have calcs practice. But honestly I mainly used my unis own pharmaceutical calculations tutorial videos, and subsequentially quizzes to practice the topics related to the exam. By now you're in final year and should be familiar with most of the topics involved in the exam. Of course I suggest you do as many practices as you can in timed conditions. Quantity to Supply was definitely a big one in the exam! The numeracy test wasn't that hard though. I think I got 8/10 or something

Hope this helps

Wish I saw your post earlier, leaving the lasepharmacy questions last would have been a really good test. I have the 3rd edition of the book you mention and I agree with your skepticism on their rationales'.
Do you know any other resources, paid or free? this is such a niche exam and i'm finding it difficult to find more questions to practice on. My test is on 3rd Oct 2023

great post. thank you
