Durham Castle Accommodation
In a few weeks time I will be coming to Durham to study physics. My college is University (Castle) and my accommodation is within the castle itself. My accommodation is a single room with shared bathroom facilities. It would be helpful If anybody has any experience with this kind of accommodation and can tell me what kind of items I will probably need to bring me for to this room. Furthermore, are there shared kitchen facilities within the castle itself?

Are you sure it's a single room within the Castle walls? First-year students only get a shared room within the Castle (although I'm not sure if that's changed), so I would suggest that you confirm the location. I doubt there would be anything super specific to this room that you'd have to bring but here's a list of some general stuff that students are advised to bring:

As for shared kitchens, there are small kitchens in the Castle but they do not have hobs. Each will only have a toaster, fridge/freezer, kettle and microwave. However, there is a kitchen with hobs in the Owengate building.

Everyone had their accommodation block confirmed today. I initially believed my room would be in castle walls due to the email sent earlier. This is good though as it means I won't have to move everything out.
