Medicine Entry Requirements

Should I take IB Math AA SL or is AI SL accepted in most UK Med Programs? I saw that on most websites the requirements for math in IB have changed but I just want to be sure it won't effect my application later on if I take IB Math AI SL

Most universities will not accept AI SL for medicine. It's best to have biology and chemistry at higher level, and then math AA at either higher or standard level.

Cambridge is the most picky university/the one with the highest preference for maths at A level (and even then it's only some colleges)

- Higher Levels in Chemistry and one of Biology, Physics, Mathematics.
- Competitive applications typically have Higher Levels in two science subjects and Maths. Some Colleges require this and/or particular subjects.
- If taking Maths at Higher Level we recommend Analysis and Approaches for the most competitive application, however Applications and Interpretations will also be considered.

Most medicine courses won't care
For example Manchester: https://www.manchester.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2023/01428/mbchb-medicine/entry-requirements/
Major subjects must include Chemistry or Biology, plus another science (one from Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology or Mathematics) and one further subject at Higher Level. We accept both Mathematics options as part of the Diploma.
Oxford: https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/course-listing/medicine
Candidates are required to take Chemistry and at least one of Biology, Physics or Mathematics to Higher Level.
Imperial https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/courses/undergraduate/medicine/
To include:
6 in Biology at higher level
6 in Chemistry at higher level
Preferred Mathematics syllabus: Both Applications and Interpretations and Analysis and Approaches are accepted.

If you don't think you can easily get a 6 in Maths at HL then don't choose it as a HL subject and apply to med schools tactically avoiding Cambridge
