Hi, I'm an A2 student who is currently doing Maths Computer Science and Business. I was planning on going into computer science in university but had a change of heart a month ago and have been really looking into studying medicine. The more I look into it the more I am attracted to it is there any way possible for me to study medicine in university?
Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.
The Medicine forum gets a high volume of questions being posted, and some of these are already answered by the resources and Megathreads that members of the community and volunteers have created. You can currently apply for Newcastle A100 and Manchester A104 courses, with the subjects you have. I would suggest doing this at the start of Yr13, but expecting to have to take a gap year and reapply, during which you should study chemistry (preferably) and/or biology A levels independently, as this will open up many more options

Thank you for your reply I do meet the grade requirements with my current grades but I just don't have the right a-levels for Newcastle. So I will hopefully take a gap year and individually study chemistry as from what I found that is preferred more by universities I had a 87 in GCSE so hopefully I can remember the previous knowledge and will probably reapply next year. Also will having extra UCAS points of my computer science and business grade be beneficial in any way?

Newcastle have no A level subject requirements at all, and Manchester A104 is a 6 yr course for those with the “wrong” A levels. Having additional A levels will not benefit a medicine application, I’m afraid

The reason why I am taking this approach is because I have already sent my UCAS application and received all my offers so it is a bit too late to apply now. However, I will attempt to enter through clearing if not possible I will take a gap year and re-apply next year with hopefully another A-level (Chemistry) and also do UCAT as it may reinforce my application a little bit more compared to the others.

You cannot apply via Clearing if you don't have a valid UCAT score from last summer. All med schools now require UCAT which you will need to sit this summer ready to apply in October.

I was talking about Manchester and Newcastle as I already meet the grade requirements for both. Do Newcastle and Manchester Foundation Year require a UCAT as well?
