Understanding the GCSE Biology exam scripts

In the exam scripts that come from the board (AQA), for the longer answers, the examiner has put blue star/flower stamps around the answer. I assume it is to mark points of significance.

Does each stamp correspond to a single mark? In multiple answers, the number of stamps matches the number of marks received. However, in some answers, the number of stamps is more than the marks given. Could that be a mistake in recording of marks for the question?
