Original post by Kevyn_a

What is the method to finding the nth term to this sequence?

1, 5, 21, 85

The nth term would be (4^{n}-1)/3 but I am not sure how to get there

1, 5, 21, 85

The nth term would be (4

The usual difference of successive terms would give a fair hint as its a simple geometric sequence.
