Solve the simultaneous equations
y=9-x
y=2x^2+4x+6

finding points of intersection?
equate both
9-x = 2x^2 +4x +6
simplify
2x^2+5x-3=0
factorise
(2x-1)(x+3)=0
2x-1 =0 or x+3=0
x=1/2 or x=-3
y=9-(0.5) = 17/2 or y=9-(-3) =12

hence (-3,12) and (1/2,17/2)
