KU Students: Check out The Career Centre!

With the New Year coming up in only a handful of weeks, you might be thinking about how exactly your student loan/monthly budget is going to last you through the rest of the academic year and if you’re anything like me, you might realise that you DO need that part-time/weekend job you’ve been putting off applying to after all!

However, job applications can be tricky and if you haven’t much experience you might not necessarily know how to go about securing jobs maybe you don’t have a CV yet or it hasn’t been updated in a while, or maybe just have no clue what to write in a cover letter. If that’s the case, you should head to Kingston University’s newly established Career Centre in JG0006, where the staff there will be able to help you craft the strongest applications possible and help you get a foot up on the many other candidates likely applying for the role.

At The Career Centre, you’ll be able to have your CV checked by a trained Student Careers Coach, who’ll offer you some top tips on how to tailor your CV and cover letter to any position you apply for. Furthermore, if you have a LinkedIn profile already set up, you can receive feedback on how to improve your profile and build your professional network and if you don’t, you might find out some good reasons to create one!

On the other hand, if you’re a student currently looking for internships, placements or even graduate job opportunities, staff at The Career Centre will be able to point you in the right direction for those as well, helping you get set up on KU’s online job platform Handshake or assisting you in booking an appointment with your faculty’s dedicated Careers Advisor to discuss career options and interview techniques.

The Career Centre is located on the ground floor of the John Galsworthy building at KU’s Penrhyn Road Campus and luckily, it’s right in front of the main courtyard entrance, so you can’t miss it! It’s open from 10-5pm, Monday to Friday, so even if you have a packed schedule of lectures and workshops, you’ll definitely be able to find a slot to drop-in and check it out. For more information, make sure to check out the Careers and Employability page on MyKingston it’s full of helpful resources and links on what services are available and what online career platforms the university offers.
