How To Save Money Whilst Studying at KU

Take Advantage of the KU Buses!
Anyone living in London knows that one of your biggest monthly costs is transport, and although parking is available at some halls of residence (e.g. Middle Mill), only some students opt to bring cars with them to uni. If you want to get about between campuses, you're best checking out the free KU buses, which can take you all the way from Seething Wells to Kingston Hill - up to date timetables are provided on the Kingston Uni app.

Use The Libraries To Your Advantage
I know how tempting it can be to walk into Waterstone's, find a fresh new book and try and justify the £10-20 price tag - but you can't do that for every single one! Instead, using iCat you can check if the book is available at one the of the multiple KU Libraries, where you can get it out on loan for as long as you need it. If you're looking for something to read over the summer as well, why not try the newly announced winner of KU's upcoming Big Read - 'Hello World: How To Be Human In the Age of the Machine' by Hannah Fry?

Talk to Your Flatmates
Ever bought something for your flat, only to come back and realise another flatmate already had the exact same idea? Whether it's kitchen roll or cleaning materials, talking to your flatmates about some of the more shared expenses can cut down costs and make life living with others just that bit easier. If you're all fairly responsible, consider setting up a rota system - e.g. one person buys the milk or butter one week, and another the next - or discuss any potential savings you could all make on bulk buys.

Check Your Subscriptions - You Could Be Overpaying!
Most subscriptions offer a reduced student rate, notably Spotify and Amazon Prime. If you were subscribed before starting uni, you might think it's a bit too hassle-y to switch your accounts over - but considering Spotify Premium for an Individual is £9.99 and the Student account is only £5.99 a month, it's worth the couple minutes of effort!

Cut Costs Where You Can
This advice is a bit obvious, but with the summer months finally upon us, you're probably going out and spending time with friends more than ever. Whilst this is great, it can also have unfortunate consequences on your bank account - especially if there's lots of travel or tickets involved! Suggest low-cost ideas for days out instead; picnics in the nearby Richmond or Bushy Park are a great option now the sun is out!
