Objects due north-west of each other

Hi, I was wondering why we equate the i and j components of position vectors due north-west of each other. I understand that the i component would be the same when in north and that the j component would be the same when in east. Note that the question I referring to is Q3cii (the very last question)

Hasnt worked (just an icon showing for me). Sometimes there are problems attaching pics to the OP, so maybe just include them in a reply?
