tbh, most people get lucky with getting jobs when they're younger. like knowing a family member who can get them one, or having a rich dad so they can work where he does. that's what happened with my brother - he got a job where my dad worked. but my dad retired early, like 2 years ago.

application forms rarely work. virtually no one I know has had success with application forms, especially since the recession. all they do is reject you with a generic reason and no company wants to hire what they see as unreliable, inexperienced students who they know they're not going to keep for long. even for the part time roles.

I know some people who have gone in and asked for work in loads of different places and eventually got jobs that way. Face to face, it's harder for places to just reject you without explanation.
