The UEA Question Thread

Is anybody currently on the media and politics course at UEA as I think I'm applying for 2013 entry, and what is the city of Norwich like?

I'm from Manchester so I'm used to a pretty busy/hectic atmosphere.

I'm not on the course but the course profile on the website will really tell you all you need to know about the course. I literally spent ages reading through level two and three modules for so many courses before I made my decision, which is a lot better than at some uni's where you don't even know what later modules you'll have until you finish your first year, which can be really irritating if there are specific areas you want to study.

I can tell you however that the atmosphere in Norwich will be in no way comparable to what you'd get in Manchester, and I'm sure everyone will tell you the same. If you want a change from that atmosphere, then great, you'll probably love UEA as everyone seems to. But if it's something you'd want to stick to then I think you'd be better off looking at similar courses in more typical "city" universities. Although that's certainly not the say that Norwich is boring, it just depends what you're into. Hopefully someone a bit more helpful/knowledgeable can come along and point you in the right direction though.

I'm from London so also used to a busy/hectic atmosphere. Norwich is nowhere near as busy, but thats not a bad thing- means you can get to places without crowds in your way e.c.t. Its a fairly small city but manages to pack a lot in - this means there is everything you would need and you can walk everywhere once you are there. For a small city it has a good number of clubs and pubs. I've definitley not been bored at all.

Anyone know where can I store my stuff during the summer holiday? Cauz I will return to my home country and I don't wanna take all those stuff home, I will come back the next September anyway right? Any one can solve this problem?

I am comming to east anglia in September, and I'm confused about the car parking situation! Is there anywhere at all to park like all day and overnight ?
Ilive on the other side of the country and there is no direct train, so I really wanted to take my car and park on campus because obviously I can't just take it home ! I also I'm doing a nursing course so will have placements! Does anyone have any advice please ?

Ive firmed my unconditional for UEA, and was just wondering what/where the nearest supermarket was to campus? I read earlier in the thread about delivery, but i was wondering more about actually going to a shop rather than deliver haha!

Hey, I'm certain of taking the Media and Politics course aswell, maybe see you then? x

North American postgraduate student here (just wrapping up my degree). Being a foreigner and a postgraduate means that you are different from all the domestic undergrads that post on these forums. If you have anything specific questions from the 'mature', international, or postgraduate perspective - ask away and I will try and answer!

My biggest bits of advice:

1. Live in the City

2. Norwich is GREAT, they really do not know how to market how awesome the city is (culture, history, access to nature, affordability). Enjoy Norwich.

Well, it depends on the size you're looking for, the UFO on campus (union food outlet) is a small but reasonably well stocked mini supermarket, selling co-op goods, and there are medium sized tesco and co-op stores at the fiveways roundabout around a 15 minute walk from campus. (Important to note: while the tesco is open 24 hours, it stops selling alcohol at 11pm. We found this out the hard way on an unsuccessful booze run). For a full sized supermarket, the easiest is Queen's Road Sainsbury's in the city, which is near the bus stops for the 20, 25 and 30 buses running through campus, taking about 20 mins or the morrison's near the train station, which you can get to on the same buses, taking about 30 mins.

Is there an equivalent of the 'UEA freshers and newcomers 2011/2012' facebook page for the coming year? I've searched but the only one I found seems dead.

its probally because results day hasnt happened yet in the UK, after the 16th August it will become more active as peoples places are confirmed.

Thanks for the advice, but what about prices and quality of the goods? Which one do you think offers the best stuff with pretty decent prices?
