i personally started in year 12. i didn't want to go very early in case they changed the curriculum,etc so that what i heard in their talks would no longer be relevant but i didn't want to go in year 13 either because applications need to be in by 15th october but many of the open days are around that date and i'd rather be focusing on perfecting my ps than running around the country!

Rabbits are seen as an easy pet to look after unfortunately. 
I wouldn't say they are suitable for young children at all. It's good that the rabbit has a loving home now though.

I went to open days in year 12 I think. I felt it was really useful to see the place and talk to students - in fact I was unsure whether to apply to Liv, and only did so after visiting an open day and now would not like to be anywhere else

What gave it away? :P Yeah, undoubtedly dogs have remained my favourite throughout my life
however I am still unsure what I would like to specialise in when I am older. I would like deal with small domestics like dogs and cats however I wouldnt want to be restricted in this if you know what I mean? I do like large animals - my work on a dairy farm has increased my interest for cows - and I have done some equine husbandry work (no veterinary as of yet ) which I did enjoy What about you? I do like cows, but my main focus will be dogs etc small animal. The side I'd want to focus on with cows wouldn't be viable and I'm not really interested with the TB testing etc

Can definitely vouch for this, I'm a 2013 applicant and the advice was very useful, far better than my teacher could give me!
when my teacher saw my finalised statement he said it was one of the best he'd ever seen, so definitely go for it! Obviously they can't write it for you, but they can advise on what to cut out, expand on etc. Happy customer!Posted from TSR Mobile
Generally open days are best in year 12. Different places have them different times of year, but you generally want to go to them all pre applying (so if you will be starting vet school in sept 2015, that means applying by oct 2014), so open days autumn 2013/springsummer 2014.
eg: RVC has their open day may, so you would be ok to wait for 2014 for that - and will probably know a bit mroe about what q's you want to ask etc then, rather than going to far in advance.

. I can generally explain it better than wikipedia I think which makes it too complicated!Spoligotype= changes in the brain parenchyma (tissue). The cells (I think) get little vaculoes in them (so imagine a cell under a microscope with a massive white hole in the middle dilating it) and thats what that means
. Spongiform means spongiosis which means accumulation of fluid within the cell. Granulomatous= a type of inflammation. Granulomatous refers to the inflammation composing mainly of white blood cells (leucocytes) which are macrophages. It refers to the predominant infiltrate (infiltrates the tissues in inflammation).
Mediastinum. I have to remember my anatomy. I think its the pleural space between the lungs. Erm. Diagram. Wikipedia explains it quite well in this instance.

Spoligotype? Granulomatous? Mediastinal? Wikipedia ahoy! Spongliotype - the type of pattern it forms in the brain. It refers to the microscope look of the big white vacuoles which is accumulation of fluid distending the cells.
(I might have nicked this definition from skatealexia herself )Granulomatous - means covered in granulommas. Which is when macrophages (a type of White blood cell) surrounds something, usually pathogen (a disease causing organism). The macrophages combine together to form a langhans cell. They surround and in effect lock away the pathogen.They are then surrounded by T cells. Over time granulommas can build up to be truly huge - not good in the lungs etc! Quite often the become necrotic (stuff dies) and then the pathogen gets set free.
Mediastinal - the gap between the two lungs - where the heart sits pretty much
