How do you know that 0.61m doesn't mean that the netball has passed through the hoop after falling back from a distance of 0.9m?

Never mind, I was thinking about something else! You seem to have followed a good method as the difference between distances is distinguishable for us to comment on whether the netball will be thrown into the hoop while the difference in time wouldn't help us as much.
