That was the easiest exam I've ever done or seen.

Do you think they'll accept both distillation and heterogeneous cracking with a zeolite for the seperation of octane and isooctane?

pfff if it was so easy then what did you get for the anti-bumping granule question-
a question which is not part of the new chemistry spec
Original post by abxo
yes i got that :d

Did the question ask for propan-1-2-diol

Gas bubbles settle around the granules preventing excessive pressure in the tube and stopping it exploding out of the top
What did everyone draw for the skeletal formula??

What was it for the H - Br question, was it Electrophillic Addition?

yes electrophilic addition
this question was a nice 7 marker

no the question asked for the displayed formula of the compound formed when propan-1,2-diol is heated w acidified potassium dichromate under reflux

wouldnt cracking jusrt make both of thenm into smalller molecules instead of seperating then
What if you described the mechanism because lines were provided?

10.5mol^-1dm^3
-308kJmol^-1
1.01 x 10^25
for the one about energy it was 118000kJ?

Was it A for the multiple choice equilibrium question?

Guys for the propane-1,2-diol question, was the organic product formed in part a a carboxylic acid-ketone combination and for the alternative organic product it's a aldehyde-ketone combination?

For the first part i believe it was under reflux ( the propan-1,2-diol )
so a carboxylic acid might have formed - but i am still unsure
Will I lose marks for saying not putting a - in front of 308?
I answered the 7 mark mechanism questions in words since there were lines, do you think I'll still be able to access all the marks?

I did that too. I assumed because the lines were provided they didn't want us to draw it... :s-smilie:

Zeolites seperate branched molecules from straight chain as branched molecules cannot pass through the honeycomb structure

personally i think bout drawing and descrbing will get the marks

But in EVERY past paper, "outline mechanism" means drawing

It's 10.5 right?

Yes !
what was the answer for he separation technique between the 2 alkanes

i wrote simple distillation is that right

yup that's an infamous part of energetics. Question was 4 marks but not having the negative means 1/2 marks max i'm afraid
