Hsbc work experience 2017

Did this last year and honestly it's not the best work experience. It's probably the worst out of any banking work experience you'll do! I didn't even get to do half the things and just stood near a photocopier and photocopied literally the whole day.

nah barclays is uesless my work experience coordinator didn't let me do it. its meant for people with basically no skills to get some kind of thing on their CV so good for year 10/11 i suppose

Honestly I am so glad that when I got a place two years ago I was unavailable for all of the dates.

I've heard nothing but bad things about this work experience, it's unpaid and there seems like there's very little career development opportunities with HSBC afterwards.

I don't want to call it a scam, because it's definitely not - but I think it's nothing more than a box-ticker on HSBC's behalf for meeting 'corporate responsibility' guidelines.

Have you got any other suggestions for experience ?

It's very difficult to get anything decent before first year of university.

PwC is probably the best one - since you can get fast tracked for a lot of things, they pay some expenses and you get paid a decent amount.

There's the argument for this that it's great to have HSBC on your CV. That's undeniable. But it's a complete waste of time when you can go on various insight days. I don't know off the top of my head which banks do them for various years, but the website 'student ladder' is great to find them.

a lot of the insight days are not even clashing with HSBC's placement so you can go on everything really there's loads of time haha. Also, insight days are way more competitive and hard to get into.

Which insight days do you mean ? could you clarify please.

Think so man. The two questions were based upon the values; related to making a decision and helping someone that's all you need to know tbh prepare for that thoroughly and you'll be fine! Good luck

Hi, i've got an interview coming up. I wanted to ask were thequestions just about 'making a decision' or was it a 'tough' decision. Similarly, 'helping someone' was that put in a certain context like someone in a difficult sitation. Would really appreciate your help.

Depends where you do it and which type (retail or commercial), I've heard retail is useless and I've put my preference as commercial so if I don't get that I won't do it since retail is just boring lol. Which one did you do?

Which work experiences would you recommend?

Better than my Barclays work experience. Just sat there behind the counters doing nothing but getting random sympathetic smiles from the customers who could tell how bored I was.

What branch did you do it at?

Just had the interview!! Went really well ngl, the guy was really nice as well - they call from Poland for some reason lol (guessing call centre staff etc are cheaper/better there); just two questions asked, but one thing which was a bit annoying is you find out if you've passed the interview by the next 5 working days, however after that they do a final shortlist of candidates who actually get the placement, which is done by the end of March due to the amount of applications they receive.. they consider the online tests in this which i did 'just good' in so idk tbh. did the best i could with the interview though, prepared for the questions he asked luckily

I only just passed and was suitable for some jobs lool according to the online assessment. You'll be fine honestly

I remember asking them how many applied and it was something like 1500 for 200 places? 600 of the applicants being from London lool

Shi*den lool got a few weeks till I get my answer!

Omfg loool I interacted with the customers although I was told not to and to just say I'm on work experience and refer them to a specialist lol. But I just helped them find their way as I remembered all the places like where the commercial meetings occur, the cashier place, where to go when you would like to book an appointment etc. I think that was the only fun part!
