Btw do you think the HSBC work exp program is worth it? I was interested in it now but now it seems pointless as its a 1-2 week program that includes retail banking, commercial banking, ops, tech, and WM. But this is 1-2 weeks term time and is it worth missing so much school for this?

Experience is experience.

do spring insight day applications check your grades/ background info before they let you go?

they may very well ask you for them, whether or not they check at that stage i wouldn't know. i'd very much adivse lying however, as later on down the line if you were to be offered a spring week or summer internship you'll go through a 3rd party agency who runs the background checks, and if its found out that you've lied.. it could lead to serious problems on top of withdrawal of an offer.

Okay
Yeah to be on the safe side but i think its more of a problem if you lie about your first year grades or for e.g if you get AAB at a level you put AAA or something

Did you apply to all insight days in your first year?

nope, it's a problem if you lie, period. doesn't matter about what, that defies banks core values on integrity

yes, i applied to many insight dates

It's as simple as this: if you don't declare it, they won't check it.

But legit no one cares about your B in GCSE DT so you might as well disclose it. No bank will decline your application on the basis of a B in GCSE DT.

Hi, can I ask what societies/clubs you joined at university and which ones you think someone wanting to go into banking should do?

finance / accounting - go into a finance one for networking and then whatever you wanna do do it, there's no expectation on specifics, try get into a position of leadership whereby you can contribute something

Yeah I kinda have an obsession with straight A's. Yeah i get it
How do they normally check it anyway? Do they do it via exam boards or something?

Also: say a person did 4 A levels and they got AAAC but the c is just an additional A level they took. Do they have to declare that?

Thanks
Also I've heard some BB banks are doing drug tests for analysts?

Ok thank you, how can one get into a leadership position at a society/club? Are there formal applications or do you have reindeer with the current leader?

just tell a current leader and/or apply to positions as they open up, depends on how organised the society is

They only look at your top three A-Levels so no, you do not have to declare it. Your application is only based on what you declare - omitted information is not taken into consideration.

Once you've received an offer, a bank will normally outsource it to a third party specialist organisation and they will request you confirm the information is correct. They then ask you to upload your certificates online and they cross-verify.

After everything is checked, they send a report to HR highlighting any issues (normally none) and it's up to HR what they do about it.

I've not personally come across drug-testing to date or heard of it, I think it's more of a U.S. thing.

Incoming IB SA at a BB here,

Just wanted to ask about your signing bonus- I wasn't actually aware people got them from converting a Summer Internship.
Is this standard across most BBs? What is the usual amount (if there is one), as say a % of the total internship pay?

Hope you're enjoying your first year as an analyst!

haven't yet begun. and yeah a sign-on is pretty standard. i think most places pay around 5k
I am a second year student in a 3 year course and plan to study masters' after undergraduate. Can I apply for spring weeks in my second year? For background check, do they check extra curricular, like your society position in high school?
