Goldsmiths MA Filmmaking 2017/2018

Hi,

I applied to the MA Filmmaking (Editing) program on the 1st of November and still haven't heard back. Does anyone know when do the decisions come out? Does it usually take that long?

Hi

I'm currently studying on this course (Directing pathway). They'll probably start looking at applications this month for all pathways I believe. Feel free to ask me anything about the course

Hi Bexi,

Thank you very much for your reply, it's very helpful to know  I wanted to ask a couple of questions about the program actually. How many courses a semester is there usually and, at the end of the program, do you write a dissertation or do a final project or both?

Hi

You have to take three 15 credit modules over the year. You choose which ones they are and whether you take them in the first or second term. The assessment is either a normal essay of around 3000 words or a film treatment or can be a filming exercise, really depends on what modules you can. There's a lot of choices.

You'll have your year long course work to do which is dependent on what specialism you are doing and there are masterclasses you can attend, plus trips to production houses, studios, SFX houses etc.

You make 3 films, each bigger than the last. Plus other smaller filming exercises in between. The last film you make is your graduation film and is the biggest one you'll make. You'll have a reflective text at the end, which is about 3000 words.

On top of all of that you can audit classes that you are not officially taking. Meaning you can attend the class and just listen.

Hi, I am interested in applying to Goldsmiths for the BA Fine Art and Art History program. May I just ask, how do you find Goldsmiths as a college as well as living in London?

Hi BexiG. Do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions abut the program? I applied for it (directing) so you would be a life saver if you can help me out.

Thank you so much for your help!

1) How long does the course last? Some people say 12 months other 15

2)How does it work with the pathways? For instance, I'm interested in directing. Do I have to attend the same classes as eg a cinematography student or would I attend different classes and then work in my role during the shootings or how is it?

3) Does the course offer any work placement opportunities? Or how helpful would you say the university is in terms of helping its students finding jobs or internships.

4) How many days per week do you attend classes?

5) In general, would you recommend this program?

Thank you so much for your help! Really appreciated
