Does anyone have perfect pitch and remember the dictation? Bit of a long shot but an unofficial markscheme would be good xD (or recognise the pieces)

If anyone can find the piece I'll be able to do it!! Can remember some but not too clearly. I guessed it was Schubert but I didn't recognise what piece it was.

How did everyone find it? I had to guess chords A and B after the dictation because I missed all 5 times...

A was V7 (with the 7th on the bottom?! Don't know if we were supposed to clarify it) then B was Ib I think.

It was a chilled paper I thought, the 36 markers were both kind

Does anyone know what the 3 pieces were for the second 36 marker, just out of interest?

Sweelinck, Mozart, Shosta

Found the piece for dictation btw! 9:23 here https://youtu.be/WM8jstSc_VA

Pretty sure this is correct

Well, I think I completely failed the listening portion so I'm just hoping my essays were alright.

Hopefully everyone except like 50 people w perfect pitch failed and the grade boundaries go lower
Did anyone recognise the comparison listening piece?

I went for Stravinsky and the 3rd date? Think it was like 1910? Shot in the dark though, probably wrong.

I'm pretty sure its the symphony of psalms from 1930 (neoclassical period rather than the rite period)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqWZGUO_eoc 0:39 and 5:01 sounds similar to the listening

which will mean that the accompaniment is an ostinato...

Guys, considering that we've got the excerpts, lets try and create an unofficial mark scheme.

I can remember what the questions were for Question 1.

Name the instrument heard at the opening of the extract A.

Name the voice first heard in extract A.

Name the type of voice first heard in extract B.

Name the type of technique played by the accompaniment at this point.

Compare and contrast the melody and texture of the excerpts.

If it's the Symphony of Psalms, it can't be a violin or viola (according to Wikipedia neither are used), so it must be a cello playing high in its range (unless wikipedia is wrong).

Altos

Soprano (did they need specifically mezzo-soprano?)

Ostinato

A) homophonic, 4-part (?) choir, monophonic at opening (?), melody with accompaniment
B) imitative, contrapuntal/polyphonic, independent lines
(don't remember melody rip)

I could be wrong.

Just wondering what that first string instrument was?? Honestly cannot tell whether or not it's a Violin or viola.

Here are a few of my answers, pretty unreliable but hey

1a) I put Violin :/
b) alto choir
c) Alberti bass (broken chords)
d) soprano choir
e) Melody dominated homophony, B was contrapuntal, A was more chromatic. B was lyrical and cantabile
f) Stravinsky
g) 1930

2a) 🤷
b) F maj
Imperfect
D min
Perfect
Dissonances:
Suspension
Appogiatura
Chords:
Dim7 (wrong)
V⁷ (wrong)

These were my answers:

Cello

Name the voice first heard in extract A
Alto

Name the type of technique played by the accompaniment at this point
Ostinato

Name the type of voice first heard in extract B
Soprano

Compare and contrast melody and texture of A and B (Mostly guesswork tbh)
A Melody
Conjunct and Scalic (I literally just guessed)
A Texture
Melody-Dominated Homophony before going into SATB
B Melody
Conjunct and Sequences
B Textures
More Contrapuntal with use of Imitation between voices

Schubert
2nd Option

Question 2

Two Cadences:
1. Tonic - Imperfect
2. Dominant - Perfect

Two Dissonances
1. Appoggiatura
2. Suspension

Dictation put in post above

Two Chords after Dictation
1. V7 (with 7th at bottom)
2. Ib

Stravinsky
Third Option

Can someone tell me what the COD damn piece in the second listening was? I guessed it was Schubert but he does not appear to have written ANY piano piece in F major, and it's not part of the B flat major sonata either......
Any ideas?

- Nevermind I was blind... I just saw @hogree's post

-Composed in 1815... Out by 25 years...
God I'm so stupid Schubert died in 1828 and he was in the anthology too :'(

I relate to you, I put Chopin even though some part of me was like "this isn't hard enough to be Chopin" because I wasn't familiar with Schubert's piano works (I knew him as a symphonic composer) but put 1815 just in case rip. At least it's only a mark.

Damn everyone in my class thought it was Chopin

Did anyone use the Anthology for the composer dates? It was pretty helpful in the 5 minutes reading time. It couldn't have been Berlioz because the dates were all wrong so I went with Stravinsky and i'm pretty confident with that. But i'm willing to be proved wrong
