Welcome week ticket

Maybe a stupid question, but apart from the party at the end do you miss out on anything by not buying the ticket?
I was just reading one of the documents and it says about registering for welcome week is £20, does that mean if you dont your "banned" as such.
Im not really bothered about the last party, but if I cant get to the stalls to sign up for societies and go out with everyone else thats a big issue.

I did, just this paper Im reading suggests you have to pay £20 to get registered for the events.
