Work Experience
How can I get work experience? Most hospitals seem to want over 18s and I'm unsure what I can do of much use at the local surgery - I can't exactly sit in on appointments (confidentiality etc)...I've done a bit of voluntary work but not medical related. I am hoping to help out in a care home this summer and I've applied for a taster course at a uni too. Not sure how helpful that is though.
yeah, most placements require you to be 18. But have you considered work shadowing? Work shadowing placements are quite easy to get and it's the best way to see for example, what a hospital doctors' responsibilities are and the ongoing activites in hospitals. Also you could go to different departments, etc... and you could write about all of this in your personal statement, i.e. how it fascinates you or how you now have a better in-sight, etc.
