What is the difference between "Biology" & "Human Biology" Degree?

I am very confused, I feel silly for not knowing what the difference is but I need help. I have these questions.

1) What is the difference between Biology and Human Biology degree?
2) Which has the better career propsect after you graduate?
3)Which is harder?

I would appreciate answers very much, thank you:smile:.
Biology covers a wider range if topics. It encompasses Human Biology but also a lot about plants, ecology, animals. Biology degrees may be considered harder because they are so broad (and all the topics are covered in a lot of depth). Human Biology may be better if you don't want to learn about plants etc. However, Biology degrees do cover a lot of the topics you will cover in Human Biology such as microbiology and genetics. If you are unsure, perhaps going for a Biology degree would be your best bet as you normally get to specialise after the first year so you can ditch the topics you don't like; you'll have to option of going for the environmental side or the human side of biology. In terms of career prospects I think it depends what you want to do. They are exactly the same but you will obviously have more choice with a biology degree as you would have covered biology in a broad sense not just looking at human biology.

1) Human Biology is just that - you will study things like anatomy, genetics etc. Biology has a broader range - you will study plant science, ecology etc. as well as modules in human biology as a subset of biology.

2) Again it depends on what career you wish to pursue, human biology may be more useful if you chose to go into medical research or something. But bear in mind that it is possible to specialise your degree, or at least have it biased towards human biology if you decide later on that that's the topic you're interested in. If you're unsure then it would perhaps be better to go for biology as it has a broader scope, and then you will be informed enought to decide which area of biology you are intersted in.

3) They will be equally challenging as you will be studying both to the same level. As human biology is an area of biology in itself you may go into more depth in this topic, but then again on a biology degree you could also chose a topic in which to specialise. All things being equal, they will both be as hard as each other, although obviously if you prefer human biology to say, biochemistry, you will naturally find it easier.

Hope that helps

Biology is the study of life.
Human biology is the study of human life.
I did Biology AS and didn't find either part harder, but I found the plant stuff boring!

Thank you eveyone for the replies, I understand better now:smile:.

My A Level grades are too low, Chemistry (E), Biology(D) & Psychology(C) so I will have to do a Foundation degree, I applied for Biology but the uni rejected me because they wanted 240 points and I have 200.

I found Chemistry at A Level very hard, I just couldn't get grasp of drawing all the structures, heck I can't even remember & I don't like biochemistry for this reason.

I love Psychology though and I think Human Biology might cover that so I will probally go for this as well as I got a grade higher in Biology then I ever did in Chemistry, during my AS levels I once got a B in one of the modules but I never got above a C in any of the modules in Chemistry. I want to be on the safe side too that is why Im also seeing if I can get a decent job with both degree's & also want to do the one which I will find easy.
