Guys is a Dumpy level and a clinometer the same thing ? If not how do they differ ? Cheers

A dumpy level is a spirit level with a short telescope and compass attached. A clinometer simply measures the angle from the horizontal and can be as simple as a point-and-shoot protractor "gun" or a more expensive levelling device used with ranging poles.The former is used more for surveying where direction is as important as angle of inclination and is therefore used to construct maps more easily than using simple clinometers.
