OCR (not MEI) S3 6 June Discussion

I haven't seen a thread on this so I thought I might start a new one. How did everyone find it? I think I definitely dropped a lot of marks

Did anyone get 4 as the value of c?

Everyone I know got 0.8something so you're probably right haha. Yh it was dodgy I hope grade boundaries are lowish compared to usual S3 boundaries

I got whatever 0.9^2 * 38 is for the variance in q1 and I think my final answer was 0.8771..?

I got mean=133 and variance =30.78
Probability between 120 and 140 is something like 0.8869=0.887

It was just the variance times by 38 right? and the population estimate was something around 5000?

What did people get for the constants 'a' and 'b'

just time 38 for vanriance
Q2 population is (250*500)/24=5208
that was what i did
'a' and 'b' were 6/5 i think

i.e 1.2

do we need to use yate correction for the chi square?
Reply 11
Yeah I used Yates' correction for chi squared
What was the confidence interval for total number of rabbits? I put roughly 3000 and 8000

i thought it was number of marked rabbit.....did i misread it...

Yeh I put vaguely 3000 and 8000. the lower CI from the previous part gave the 8000 and the higher CI gave the 3000 i think?

hmm I got 1/5 for b and something like 14/15 for a but i think i got a wrong

i got both a & b =1.2
I reckon high grade boundaries, perhaps 63 for an A

that was quite cheeky of them, but there was hint in the form that we had to show what F(x) was given the final answer

What did everyone get for the q where you are asked to estimate the sample size for which the sample mean differs from mew by less than 0.05 with probability 0.95 i got 3840 or something, but some people got 2700 or something not sure.
