Please help me !!!

My problem : I have offers from Coventry university and Northumria University . Both are equally good . And they are fairly ranked close for mechanical engineering. I have visited both of them and found their facilities equally impressive . So deciding between them is tough . If someone could give on opinion on this issue ?

I had the exact same decision to make (University wise) between Coventry and Northumbria. As it happens there is only a few Uni's that do the specific course I want, and these two were the top two of them.
But quite simply I chose Coventry because it's closer to my actual home, even though I'm living in halls, it's nice to have the "I'll just nip home to get this or get my washing done''.

I'm starting to have thoughts of ''What if I went somewhere else or whatever" only because of funding, Coventry Uni accommodation is very expensive in my opinion, with some of my friends paying between £70-£85 a week, my bill at Callice is £125 p/w.

But essentially, the choice is yours to make, based on viewings/open days and personal gut feeling. A huge selling point for me is that I seen the labs I am going to be using and I was amazed - Well done Cov for that one.

What I would suggest is to go to open days, speak to other students around the campus that are not wearing the "This University is paying me to say nice things" T-Shirts and ask their honest opinions.

You boys enjoy your compulsory modules for solid mechanics and thermofluids in third year. Off top of my head 150 students in thermofluids in 2nd year and when it was optional only 20 stayed on to do it for 3rd year. Now you have to do it so sucks if you're not that great at it to begin with.

Just to clarify I have no idea about engineering and I didn't understand the majority of your message. I am going to be studying Network Security.
In response to you receiving offers from different Uni's and not knowing what to choose... I received offers from 5 different Uni's : Birmingham, Sheffield Hallam, Northumbria, Coventry and Leeds Met, So I understand it is hard making this decision.

Sorry I originally mentioned I was a third year mechanical engineering student there already. Deleted it and took my message out of context

I'm not saying it's really bad here or anything but if I had to redo things. Northumbria is a good university in a nice big city. That's just me tho.

Might be one of those situations where the grass seems greener on the other side or maybe not :dontknow:

Oh yeah .. I understand ...But how is student life there ... Nightlife? Making friends and socialising ? It's close to Birmingham right ? So how's it ?

Newcastle easily wins here for night life by a long shot. I know it's what you make of it...but Coventry :mmm:

Birmingham is about 20 mins away on train. No ticket checks on way there or back really...

Hmm ... But the labs and stuff blew my mind .. Especially the jet and airplane simulators... Is the course interesting ? Do u need a strong background on the basics ? Do they start by refreshing the basics or do they start head on ? Kinda nervous coz I finished school in march so mostly won't remember everything till September ? Any preparation needed? How are the lecturers and tutors ? Do they make it easy for you to understand ? Sorry for being so annoyingly full of questions :biggrin:

I can't really answer your first question sorry. I don't have a passion for the subject and I just do what's asked. The first year is pretty straight forward and easy. They will recap on very basic topics. It's a bit of a joke really, however, do put in your time and effort in. Take deadlines seriously and don't leave things to last minute. There's a lecturer you'll meet if you do come this September. He's a bit of a legend

Enjoy your summer. There's nothing to worry about.
