simple question on standard deviation

Hi just going through the process of standard deviations. Upto the variance part. I've squared all the numbers and added them togrther which equalled 2.3, so now I divide that number by N-1 (8). But how do i form the sum? 2.3/8 or 8/2.3? Thanks

2.3/8 would be the variance, and square root it for the standard deviation
