Lol btec

Well you got your flame war. You happy now? Maybe I should go into a mosque and rant how religion is a joke. Because that's a reasonable thing to do right?

LOL I would agree with you on those two. Islam is evil (so is christianity, judaism and all other religions btw) and religion is indeed a joke.

Anyway, this is a forum for people to share their opinions. This thread was about BTEC results so I don't think nothing of which I posted was irrelevant.

No need to bring religion in to it.

A lot of people I know that did BTEC and got D* from barely doing any work, which I don't understand and find it frustrating, I know I worked exceedingly hard for my D* in my extended diploma.

I started out doing AS level at my school, and It was a horrendous decision, my school were so unorganised and a lot of our classes were left without a teacher for almost 60% of the year! The teaching was shocking, I learned nothing from them and I had to teach myself. I decided I wanted to do something else as I was wasting my time at sixth form, so I decided I wanted to do animal management seeing as my course is veterinary nursing.

I put so much effort and work into my diploma and achieved D*. We had certain rules with our diploma such as if you handed in work even a day late you would only be able to achieve a pass grade. Lots of people handed in work late and got merits... this was unfair and it was always one rule for one and another for another, it's frustrating when you work so hard to get something and someone else can just be 20 assignments behind and still get a merit overall when they should get about a pass.

My average grades are B's and C's and achieved C's in my AS somehow... but just didn't want to complete them at school so didn't bother and moved onto something else. Although, doing animal management was the best decision I have ever made seeing as I was working with animals 2 days a week and learning about them 3 days a week. BTECS are mainly 3 days a week but I spend the other 2 days and Saturday doing work experience, but I do work hard and I know other people who have done BTEC work hard, and you shouldn't snub it just because your friends do BTEC as the easy option.

Some people aren't actually suited to A-Level and want to take a BTEC but it isn't fair for people to say they don't deserve to go to university because they didn't do A-Levels.

I'm merely suggesting that BTECs should be made more difficult, so that they truly become a considerable and equally respected alternative option for those who do not like the exam-based nature of A-levels. What it is right now is a significantly easier option for less able students to get into university the easy way.

Oh right, because when my Track updated in early July, it didn't say what my results were only that I'd had my firm choice confirmed. Only just got my certificate and thankfully no nasty surprises, everything is how it was when I checked before end of college. Distinctions in all units. Was worried some might be downgraded to merits after being checked by the exam board.

And hope you don't mind me saying but the setup your college has is pretty weird; why on would it be necessary to have a presentation evening all the way in December for former students? If it were me don't think I'd turn up haha never wanna go back to college! 😁

Thats exactly my point lol. I just wanted my firm choice to be confirmed asap but I guess I'll have to wait till results day since that is when my college will 'officially' release the results and that is probably when the uni will get my results as well. Lol same, I dont think I will go to the presentation evening, I'll just have them posted.

Oh maybe your college sent your results late

I am not sure, all I know is that they gave us a final deadline saying that this is when the results needs to be sent off.

BTEC is a joke. Shouldn't even count toward uni application. It's unfair I had to do such tough a level exams to get the grades, while other people just did their BTEC and got in the same course

Btec isn't a joke, stop chatting shiit here. You don't know how hard it is to actually pass a Btec course. Maybe its rubbish at your college.

My point was that you wouldn't go into a place of worship, where Muslim's come to congregate and practice their religion, and preach about that. So why come onto this thread and do the same thing here.

What you posted WAS irrelevant. You said it yourself, this thread was about BTEC results NOT about making condescending comments in the hopes of starting a flame war. BTEC's are a primarily vocational qualification and they have their role in giving students the opportunity to pursue whatever career they want in life. In the exact same way that A-Level's would do. Not all university degree's would require a-level subjects (e.g. nursing, paramedic) and students would be better off doing a BTEC that's more related to the field. That doesn't mean to say that someone doing BTEC engineering isn't fit to study it at degree level, after all, we get taught a lot of the core concepts of engineering (as well as getting taught maths/physics modules) and by the time we progress onto a degree we'll already by familiar with it. Whether you think it's "easier" or not doesn't matter. Because at the end of the day, it's up to both the universities and the student themselves to decide whether the qualification they're doing will prepare them for the degree.

Also, you're acting like BTEC students get to do any degree that A-Level students can do. Can I get into medicine with an extended diploma in science? Or computer science with my BTEC in Engineering?

I'm baffled by the fact that you're so angry so much about what qualifications your peers at university did. Will it effect you that a person doing law at your Unit got into it with a BTEC in business? No it won't. Stop being so petty and turning this thread into US vs THEM. There are PLENTY of other threads for this kind of debate and I suggest you go there if you want to engage in a worthwhile discussion.

Just ignore them. He/she wanted people to flip out and is fully aware how childish it is to talk **** about BTEC's on a thread where people come to talk about their BTEC results.

Yeah ikrrr, the fact that they did A Levels doesn't mean they are brilliant

To summarise: people are jealous that we chose a method of learning that enabled us to learn in-depth on our subject and advance to higher education. No need to fight them, just be proud of your results

Hopefully this thread will be back on track from now on.

Well said.
BTEC equips you with more knowledge and specialism in the subject you wish to choose at university. Stop trying to belittle people for their choice.

On my university fresher Facebook page NO ONE has belittled anyone for doing their btec, everyone should be encouraging everyone no matter what!
I dont understand why people have an issue with BTEC's not everyone is suited for exams having an alternative gives people like me an opportunity to perform and excel in course work and show universities we are equally determined to get into uni, my school doesn't offer extended diplomas that means I have to work two diplomas both at D,D and believe me that wasn't easy I've worked very hard to get these grades to meet my conditional offer (fingers crossed I'll get into my firm). So to everyone who is too busy arguing about how BTEC's are easy you should be more focus on your A-level's grades thats what important in my view.

And good luck to people for results day
This ucas Track thing is all getting very silly and frustrating. I received my certificates through the post on Wednesday, and Track hasn't been updated either confirming or rejecting my place at my university. I've contacted both the university and ucas, and both are blaming each other; "You would need to ask UCAS how long they take updating their systems" and "It would depend on when your uni choices receive your results. We receive a weekly batch of results from the exam board EDEXCEL from July until September. These are passed straight on to the institutions".

Thanks but they're not much use at the minute. I emailed the university the grades and haven't replied, still waiting for track to update
I assume that you've met your offers compared against your certificates then you'll be fine
