Sky, etc to be sold to Disney

Murdoch is selling up!

Was not expecting that:

Walt Disney buys Murdoch's Fox for $52bn - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-42353545
Rupert Murdoch's $66bn Disney deal reshapes his media empire

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/dec/14/rupert-murdochs-60bn-disney-deal-reshapes-his-media-empire

Although he's keeping the news and newspaper business.

How long before Disney has their eyes on Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc?
Interesting. How long then until things like star wars and the mcu are exclusive to sky movies?

Out of their price range now. It would be more likely the other way round...

Ah the heady days when AOL bought Time Warner for $162 billion.

Google (Alphabet) market cap currently : $700 billion
Apple : $900 billion
Microsoft : $650 billion

Disney : $160 billion

Its been in the pipeline for a while. I was expecting $60 billion.

Means Disney own the 39% stake in Sky.
They also get rights to the original Star Wars movies.
A large stake in Hulu.
Also good news for Marvel fans as they get the rights to

Fantastic Four plus X men and Deadpool plus a selection of others.

It would be nice if Disney brought Firefly back.

Disney really made some great buys when they snaffled up Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars.

Hopefully, yes but I don't see them being keen to help competitors - like how YouTube is being withdrawn from all Amazon devices come end of the month due to disputes over Amazon and Chromecast: exclusivity is a major part of competition in pretty much all entertainment industries (e.g. gaming, where Pokemon as Nintendo IP has never, and will never, be on a non-Nintendo device)

Indeed, I can remember my brother being disappointed that Pokemon Colleseum isn't available on PlayStation.

Wonder if Disney will bid for the rest of Sky?

Which is exactly why the infrastructure of the internet should kept away from these parasites.

No idea, but the value of Disney is up past $200 billion compared to Fox at $52 billion, so it gives you an idea of how big Disney is.

The Sky deal will still be investigated by the regulator.

Strange for Murdoch to sell as I thought he was going to leave it to the family. Perhaps he will set up a lot of Trusts in his own name for posterity?

A sad day for the wrestling fans as it ultimately led to the closure of WCW.

I'll be darned! I didn't realise
Well, any deal that takes a means of mass communication out of the hands of Rupert Murdoch is fine by me.
