Is an English tutor worth it for GCSEs?

Hi, I’m in year 10 and my awesome English teacher is leaving in June which sucks! He has really helped me a lot this year and makes me feel like I could get my grades. I was predicted two 8s but I’m really unconfident in English so I moved it down to two 7s. Tbh if I get 6s I will be so happy bc then I can go to sixth form. I’m really worried about a new teacher and that I won’t get 6s in my GCSEs. We aren’t the richest people but is an English tutor worth it? How do they really help and if I did get one then should I only start nearer to exams (2019)?
I think a few teachers at school do tutoring but idk...? Pls help!!! X

I’d see how this year goes if you’re doing mocks at the end of the year that will be really helpful to seeing if you need to get some more help with boosting up your grades. If you only need a little help it may be a good time to try and set up a study group with some of the people in your class. I know it seems totally boring but sometimes doing some work with friends or other classmates can be really helpful as they can show you other ways of thinking.
If you don’t do so well I’d ask teachers if they’re doing tutoring because they will sometimes offer you it at a lower price than an actual tutor. Some teachers will even do shorter sessions for free so it’s worth asking.
Tutoring can be really helpful and I know exams seem really far away but they come up so fast, it would be worth getting one before January if you feel you need that extra bit of help.

Depends who you get, but if you dont have the money I would say no. If you are in the 6's area then you are reasonably bright and a more cost effective method will be to get some revision books. Tutors help with 1 on 1 assistance tailored to your weaknesses and strength. They can make an impact to help you improve.

Is this English Lang or Lit and which exam board?

You may also get a brilliant replacement teacher, so wait.

Ok thanks. Yeah I have mocks in a month so I’ll see how they go. I have access arrangements so that should help a lot!
