It would be cheaper to go from LHR to Kings Cross and then from Kings Cross to Durham.

Piccadilly line (dark blue) underground tube train (which you can pick up at each terminal at Heathrow, then all the way up and get off at Kings Cross Underground station. Then just follow the signs to get out of the underground bit to the main line train station of Kings Cross. Trains to Durham from Kings Cross mainline station. Some go direct , some you need to change. (This weekend there are engineering works though so no direct trains)

Also when you get to Durham, many colleges are in walking distance on the Bailey, Hill colleges probably a bit further so you can get a taxi.

Also to pay for the underground tube ticket, if you have a ‘contactless’ bank card, credit or debit card, you can use that to just tap in and tap out of the gates. You don’t need to buy a specific ticket from the machines if you have one.

Not sure if it is direct, it says ‘one change’ for the coach but can’t see where that is - it may be in central london? The journey takes 9 hours by coach.
