NYPD truck driving into crowd of protesters

Social media seems to be littered with scenes like these. I've no sympathy for those protestors mindlessly looting and vandalising but in all honestly a lot of this hatred seems to be provoked by the appalling police response to all of this. Mindless violence on both sides is only aggravating the situation.

There is something serious wrong there, the vast majority are standing behind the barrier presumably set up by the NYPD.

I don't imagine that the policing operating procedure is to use your vehicle as a weapon.
Sadly I've seen many clips of unprovoked violence by police on social media. I can't figure out if they are deliberately trying to inflame the situation or just too dumb to realise.

Anyway, here is a video of police being throughly decent.

That's self defence from the police officer getting attacked by the mob as far as I'm concerned in that video. Not to mention the stupidity of those protesting whilst thousands across the globe continue to die from something called a global pandemic.

So do you expect the police to sit there and be shot at or have Molotov cocktails thrown at them? Or nudge their way through idiots standing on the road and stopping them getting where they need to be? It's not like they're doing a Charlottesville to deliberately run people down.

Self defence? They could have just reversed there was nobody behind them.

Do American police not have reverse?

Is a traffic cone a molotov cocktail?

Do American people have to stand in front of traffic?

This is a molotov cocktail and was thrown at police:

Would you recommend running over anyone stood in front of traffic?

I don't condone any violence by either side.

Source for people actually being run over during this incident?

I asked if that was your recommendation.

People aren't even allowed to stand on the front porch of their own property now, apparently.

And they wonder why people may not like the police.

And I'm asking what has running over people got to do with what was happening here?

You seem to be suggesting that using your weapon as a vehicle is the right and proportionate response to people standing on a road.

Exactly. And I think it runs deeper than that - it's part of the reason why much of the world despises America. Their gun culture has a created trigger happy society in which violence and aggression thrives, the consequences of which are plain to see. For a country that is so advanced in some respects to be so backwards in others is fascinating.

As the saying goes, violence begets violence.

Interestingly it was lifted from the Bible, Matthew 26:52

"Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword."
