Well, what does "y is inversely proportional to x" mean?

Can you write down an equivalent definition in the form of an equation like y = something where "something" involves x?

First of all I just want to say thank you for helping me!

And I think the equation is:
y=k/x

That's right :smile:

And they've given you a value of x and the value of y that goes with it, so you can write down an equation that you can rearrange to find k...

I wrote that answer(the one that you said was right) but they said it was wrong?

Did you write down y = k / x or did you actually work out the value of k first?

Perhaps the answer they want is the final equation with the actual value of k in it?

(Sorry for replying so late)

I did it without working k out and it said it was wrong, but I also worked out k and I got 9/7, which I put in my final answer and it also says that it is wrong.

Re-check your logic :smile:

y is inversely proportional to x, so y=kxy = \dfrac{k}{x}

When y = 7, x = 9, so we have 7=k97 = \dfrac{k}{9}.

So what is your value for k?
ohh...I get it now!
it would be 9*7 so 63!

I kind of feel a bit dumb now lol
Thank you so much for your help, Davros!

Don't worry about it :smile:

Sometimes we need someone else to look at things with a fresh eye, or just nudge us in the right direction!
