For (b) try putting into completed square form.

Okay so i get (x +1/2)^2 - 0.25 + 1
(x +1/2)^2 + 0.75

I get that it will always be positive because its been squared and greater than one since 0.75 has been added, but why does is not apply the x = 2

Do you mean x not equal to -2?

Look at the denominator .... division by zero is not defined.
