In terms of free resources, I assume you have found the following (these are some of the best out there I think):

https://www.admissionstesting.org/for-test-takers/bmat/preparing-for-bmat/practice-papers/ (official site, not that many)
https://www.blackstonetutors.co.uk/free-bmat-subject-guide.html (tutoring site, lots of past papers)
https://www.blackstonetutors.co.uk/bmat-section-1-critical-thinking---additional-practice.html (extra content for critical thinking, from OCR critical thinking past papers)
https://www.medicmind.co.uk/bmat-past-papers/ (arranged by subject here as well)

In terms of marking the essays - unless you are willing to pay for a private tutor, I think your best bet is teachers in the sciences at your school, or a local doctor who's feeling kindhearted!

Thank you
and thank you too.
hi!

would u say it is worth doing the bmat for just one uni (oxford)? i would really love to go to oxford but i don't want to risk applying to other bmat schools. or should i go for an equal split between ucat and bmat?

thanks x

Plenty of people apply to just one BMAT med school - this is especially worthwhile this year (and also last year) because the early BMAT is cancelled, and everyone had to apply "blind".

Unless you tanked the UCAT, I would apply to 3 UCAT med schools and 1 BMAT med school.

Hmmm you're definitely below-average for them, their average offer holders have 10.2 A*s (Grade 8 and 9s).

Here is the stats: https://www.medsci.ox.ac.uk/study/medicine/pre-clinical/statistics

^^ you can see that with 8 A*s (Grade 8 / 9s), the majority were not interviewed. It could be risky.

omgg that graph is insaaaaaane. ig i am better off not applying to a bmat uni at all. i don't think i'll get in if the average is 10 :frown: :frown: anyway thank u so so much!

Your GCSEs would be fine for Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, BSMS and Lancaster. It’s really just Oxford and Leeds that use the BMAT and are super GCSE heavy (although with 1 7 Leeds is probably just about still on the table)
And there will be GCSE heavy UCAT unis to avoid like Cardiff!
Hi! Does anyone know if the BMAT in november will be online like it was for this year?

Still paper-based under current plans.

why was it made online this year?

why couldn't they do it as a paper?

Because the BMAT last year coincided with UK November 2020 lockdown, so some people have to be isolated or do it somewhere else.

It would have been fairer that everyone does it on the computer back then.

ohh I thought everyone had to do it on computer at test centres last year, not at home though.

So this year, people have to do it on paper at the registered school/centre?

Some people definitely did it at home, or at least in isolated supervised conditions.

And yes, the plan is for it to return to normal this year - but with COVID still out of control in some parts of the world... who knows?

who knows with new variants

Hopefully everything will be back to normal ASAP.

UCAT being done at the test centres, BMAT done in schools on paper and in-person interviews is definitely the way to go.

Apparantly to do medicine at uni you need to do something called a BMAT, but how are you supposed to do a MEDICAL TEST before studying medicine?!?
The BMAT stands for biomedical admissions test. It doesn't actually test you on medical information, mostly a level based science and essay writing.
ur right, online interviews was acc harder to gain a place I think as it’s harder to demonstrate confidence.
