Everyone at my school makes such a big deal out of uni applications. Personal statements, grades etc. etc. I just wanted to know if getting an offer from a university (medicine) is really as hard as it seems? Not those very high in the rankings but lets say liverpool or newcastle. Is it really that competitive and out of 4 choices how many does a person usually get an offer from?

For 2022 entry, around 16% of people got an offer. Now that is a bit lower than historical levels, but yes, it is difficult. Even pre-covid, most people did not get an offer. And Liverpool is hugely competitive, in terms of numbers. Rankings mean nothing for medicine and it is all about applying strategically to the strengths in your application
