University of Westminster - Film Portfolio Advice

Hello everyone!

I’m thinking of applying for the Film BA(Hons) course in 2022 and I am asking for some advice for what things in your portfolio and just general advice for the interview and questionnaire process got you onto the course?

I currently do Media Studies A-Level for in school activities and I have a YouTube Channel where I create lifestyle videos which is created entirely by myself.
I also just completed EPQ which I wrote about Disney and their Live-Action Remakes.

What other aspects would help me get onto the course that I could perhaps complete or look into over the summer?

Thank you!

Hi @bethany_gribble, here is a link to the USW BA (Hons) Film Course, https://www.southwales.ac.uk/courses/ba-hons-film/ based in Cardiff for you to have a look at the modules and some of the projects our students have worked on. One of our students Luke, who has studied Film and Media Studies will reply to your query shortly. I hope this is will be of help. Many thanks Rebecca

Hi @bethany_gribble, here is the reply from one our film students Luke. I hope it helps. The best advice is to make a short showreel with any projects they have worked on. The youtube channel would be a big benefit as it shows that they can put together projects themselves.

Would also recommend to them to complete Screen Skills COVID safety on production, they'll likely will not need it just yet, but would look good on their application. https://www.screenskills.com/online-learning/learning-modules/coronavirus-basic-awareness-on-production-training/. Let me know if I can help further. With best wishes Rebecca, USW Official Rep
