I dont understand why the markscheme uses V = u+ at - i am not sure for the first question - i dont understand how we can find t - if we dont have v

Should be clear from the rest of the markscheme as to what is going on.

Although we do not know immediately what v is at time T, we do know a certain property that it posseses, i.e. its i,j components are in the ratio 3:-4, and that is sufficient to determine T (and hence v if you want it).
