Help Maths!

Hi, I dont understand why in this question for part A you have to multiply the forces by 9.8 then equalling it to the mass* acceleration. Should it not just be the 2 forces added that are acting on the particle multiplied by the mass and the acceleration?

Its acted on by the two forces AND gravity .... so three forces
