Growing beard at 17?

Hi,

So recently I’ve been noticing some beard growth like I’ve always had sideburns that are like curly and fluffy (it sounds weird) but i never really noticed hair on my cheeks and starting to connect until now. Although my cheek hair is very light I can see it growing but the problem is my side burns are quite thick and they are more grown than my cheek hair, so it kinda still looks weird with the fluffy sideburns trying to connect with the cheek hair. My family are telling me to shave it because I do look scruffy but I feel like if I shave it I would have to restart my growth and it will take longer for a full beard to grow. What should I do? I can just trim the sideburns using clippers or shave it completely and leave a goatee. But I want a full beard won’t that slow the process. Idk, can anyone give me advice
