chromosomes are coiled up lengths of DNA molecules

yes, they are not connected to each other, normally we have 23 pairs of chromosomes in each of our(human) cell, except the sex cells

A chromosome consists of the coiled DNA, the genome that is responsible for all the kinds of characteristic attributes.

Chromosomes aren't connected to each other, they stand for their own. 23 sparated pairs in each cell.
