hey can anyone help with the idea of crossing over?
I don't understand the difference between the term chiasmata and bivalents.
would it be correct to say bivalents form and chiasmata exchange dna??
pls could someone put it into a sentence

A bivalent is the joining of two pairs of homologous chromosomes at a centromere in meiosis I. Once a bivalent is formed, crossing over occurs at chiasmata (chiasmata or chiasma for the singular are the sites of crossover). Crossing over occurs between non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes. The crossing over of alleles between these chromatids contributes towards increasing genetic variation. Hopefully this makes sense
