Where's the cheapest place for artists to live in London now?

I'm moving to London this summer to do a MA painting and I've just started looking where I'd like to find somewhere to live. Can't afford anywhere I know to be arty like East London or Peckham, so I'm going to have to look a bit further afield. I'd love to be in an area with some sort of underground art scene, small galleries and other artists ideally (I'd be looking for a house share). So wondering, where do the poor artists who haven't fled to the coast live these days?

Did you find anywhere? Stumbled upon your post while looking for something else, if you are still looking for the right place, check if you would like the creative warehouse communities - Hackney Wick, Fish Island, Fountayne Rd in Tottenham Hale or the Manor House area. They are not for everyone and some are not even cheap anymore but especially Tottenham has the tube right there next to the warehouses
