What's Provided in Kingston University Halls?

Whether you're bogged down with university packing lists or not yet giving it a second thought, moving-in dates are rapidly approaching. As local stores and major retailers kick off their 'uni essentials' sales, here are some of the key items already in KU halls so you don't waste any packing space or student loan bringing/buying doubles!

Kitchen
Your communal kitchen will already have most basic kitchen appliances - so don't fret over how you'll fit that kettle in your suitcase! KU communal kitchens include:
- a kettle, microwave and toaster
- an iron and ironing board
- vacuum cleaner
- mop and bucket
- dustpan, broom and brush
- cooker
- fridge/freezer

Bedroom
Whilst you'll need to bring your own duvet and bed linen, you won't have to bring most large furnishings. Your bedroom will include:
- a bed (obviously!)
- curtains/blinds
- a desk and chair
- book shelves
- a waste-paper bin
- a notice board

Laundry
Each hall will have a laundry service (washing machines and tumble-dryers) which operates on a pay-by-use basis. Once you arrive in Kingston I'd recommend you buy some laundry detergent at a local supermarket - I bought one box at the start of the year for a couple of pounds in Sainsbury's, and still haven't used it all up yet!

Key Things NOT To Bring
Most university halls have some obvious restrictions, including weapons, illegal drugs and swords - however, some prohibited items are more specific to certain university halls in particular. For KU, these include:
- beanbags
- fairy lights
- hookahs/shisha pipes and E-cigarettes (only to be used outside)
- portable cooking hob/stove
- inflatable chairs and beds
- water guns

Hope this was helpful - any questions, just drop them below!
