Hello, may I know how is Essex university, I have applied for MBM there.

In terms of campus: Our gym is home to over 160 fitness stations, on-site parking, machines with TV and audio systems and 300 fitness classes every month. We have our 250-metre climbing wall with bouldering and top roping facilities, as well as having over 20 indoor courts including basketball, volleyball, squash, netball and futsal. Our 40 acres of outdoor sports space includes an 18-hole disc golf course, cricket pitch, tennis court, jogging routes, two rugby pitches and five football pitches.💪🤸⛹️🏋️🏂🏇🏌️

Overlooking the lakes at the heart of our Colchester Campus is the Albert Sloman Library. Use our paternoster lift to reach six floors of research resources, specialist materials, and of course a whole lot of books. It's the perfect environment for quiet reading or that last-minute essay. The library is open 24/7 during term time and has a wide range of learning resources; books, journals, British and foreign-newspapers, microfilms and audio-visual materials - most of course materials are online as well so you can access this from home just as well. 📕📚📑

On campus we have 2 bars, and a nightclub, as well as lots of food outlets, shops and on a Thursday we have a food market take place. We also have both a theatre and a cinema! This all offers lots of space for students socially. 😎🍔🍕🍹 We have over 165 societies and clubs to join and be part of! I personally did Cheerleading and enjoyed being in a competitive team, where we travelled across the country for competitions, as well as having social events together! 🎀

As Britain's oldest recorded development, the city of Colchester is steeped in over two thousand years of history after being founded by the Ancient Romans, and it's also where our main university campus is located. But it's not just Colchester that has lots for you to explore. Chelmsford is the first and only city in Essex, showcasing a bustling city centre packed full of shops and restaurants, it's also the birthplace of radio. A little further north of the county you'll find the village Tiptree, so famous for producing jam, The Queen marked their 125th celebration with a visit by Her Majesty🍓🍒. Our Colchester Campus is also easily reached from London and Stansted Airport in under one hour, with 3 train stations near by🚅🛫

Check out our website for everything we have to offer on campus: https://www.essex.ac.uk/life/colchester-campus.

And check this out to see what is going on in Colchester: https://incolchester.co.uk/events.

I hope this helps! ✨😎🎓😊😁

Hey @LaurynGold 👋

Thats awesome, keep up the good work!

Have you got an idea of what you'd like to do after uni? We've got a great careers team and I'd recommend a placement year if there's one for your course, or an internship to get some valued work experience while you're here. I like that we're not too far from London as well.

Definitely get involved with the SU and join in with some clubs and societies, our SU has a robotics society too

If you have any questions about what its like at the Essex campus let me know 😊

Best wishes

I like how it can be a mixture of different engineering disciplines and how you can use robotics in every day life meaning that there are many possibilities of robots that can be made

That's so cool!

Placements are competitive, so take up all the support they offer when you start applying in second year. Enjoy your first year getting settled and finding your place here at Essex 😊

Is Essex good for criminology and placement??

Is Essex good for criminology and placement??

Hey @enndiee

I study Sociology with Social Psychology and, as Criminology sits within the Sociology Department, I have been able to study some Criminology modules. From what I have studied, I think that there are a range of really interesting modules that Criminology students are able to study. For example, in my second year I did a module called Policing, Punishment and Society, which looked at prisons, rehabilitation and crime in general.

Here is an overview of the topics you would come across if you studied Criminology with us:
🎓 Introduction to Crime, Law and Society
🎓 Sociology of Crime and Control
🎓 Policing, Punishment and Society
🎓 Globalisation and Crime
🎓 Crime, Policy and Social Justice

There are also many other topics that you can study. I would recommend looking at the course breakdown on our website, where you'll find more in-depth descriptions of the modules to see if it suits what you would like to study. https://www.essex.ac.uk/courses/UG00089/1/BA-Criminology

In terms of placement years, we have a great careers team here that are able to provide lots of support with CVs, interviews and finding a placement etc.

No matter what you want to do, there is always someone at Essex to support you! I hope this helps, if you can any more questions don't hesitate to ask them. 😊
