Off-cycle internships abroad - do I need to be fluent?

So I’m a 2nd year student and my degree is 4 years long as my 3rd year will be spent abroad. I really want to spend half of the year doing an internship at an IB, AM or consulting firm as I think it would be great to earn some extra money and also some experience. Since I study languages at university, the internship would have to be in a country whose official language is one I study (Spanish, French, Chinese). Ideally, I would spend the first half of the year studying in Spain or Colombia, and then do an internship in Madrid. Is there anyone out there that has done an internship abroad (not necessarily just in Spain) that could advise me on the language aspect of it? (Is English spoken much at the offices? Are most of the employees natives or expats? Is it difficult to socialise due to language barriers?)
