KU Students: The Kingston Christmas Market Is Open Now!

If you're a second, third or even fifth year student at Kingston University, you'll know exactly what the famous Kingston Christmas Market is - but if you're a fresher, you're in for a treat!

As an ancient market town, you've probably already seen Kingston’s Ancient Market Place in the town - it's home to KU’s own student-run Not My Beautiful House. However, during the Christmas period, the town centre is transformed with fairy lights and quaint wooden winter huts, where you can sip on a glass of specialty mulled wine and enjoy a traditional German bratwurst whilst picking up some stocking fillers for your friends and family back home.

On top of all the classic food and drink favourites, this year there's a few new additions to the market - including The Cheese Wheel, which specialises in making pasta dishes on top of a giant wheel of (you guessed it) cheese, and Rizz Rice, Britain's first rice pudding bar.

If you're looking to pick up some local arts and crafts you'll have dozens of choices, ranging from handmade soy candles and soaps from Pause Reflect Repeat to paper star lights from Starlight Cornwall. I know from experience that these craft stalls make some great gifts for those individuals who are just a bit difficult to buy for - after all, there's nothing better than a one-of-a-kind present!

Or, if entertainment is more your thing, you and your flatmates could have a go at Bavarian Curling - it's only £10 for a 45 minute session, and the staff give you a full rundown of rules and techniques before you start playing. Alternatively, grab a pint of cider and check out the Live Music or Open Mic Nights running way up until the 28th December!

The Market Stalls are open from 10am-6pm Sunday to Wednesday, and 10am-8pm Thursday to Saturday, with bar, food and entertainment closing times varying from 8-10pm based on the day. Even if you're not a social butterfly, it's worth popping by for an hour or two here and there to see what's going on - especially in the evenings when it's all lit up!

What's your favourite stall at the Kingston Christmas Market? Or, what's the best Christmas Market that you've ever been to?
