Research into Sidney Fox, as he suggested that amino acids formed from the Miller-Urey experiment. It's one of the hypotheses of how life began, the "Proteins-First Hypothesis".
The edge of layered octahedral and tetrahedral sheets of clay minerals have positive and negative charges and it has also been proposed that amino acids might have assembled into proteinoids by attaching to these surfaces.
