geography vs history gcse

i like both subjects, but i think history is most interesting to take. i’ve heard from loads of people that history is really hard, which is why it’s mainly putting me off the gcse. also i have a feeling that i’m not very good at history, and i’m better at geography. everybody says that you should take what you enjoy and if that’s the case i would do history, but i feel i’m better at geography and history is harder for me.
If you're willing to put the work in, I would say history is better for GCSE, if it's more interesting to you (i'm biased ngl), if you're looking for an easy(well, easier) 9, geography is better. Keep in mind that as you progress on though the work doesn't feel as bad as it will in the beginning of the year.

i’m so conflicted because i wouldn’t mind taking either i’m just concerned about the word standard and how much i’ll have to do. geography is easier for my to grasp and easier as a gcse but is more boring compared to history, but i struggle more in history and it’s more work! omg i need help 😅😅😅
history is actually not that hard if you learn the key things and the structure that u need to answer the questions. i used to take both geography and history and i found geography sooo boring but i find history really interesting. i ended up dropping geography as i had 0 motivation to revise for it, if you enjoy something you’ll enjoy revising for it more and you’ll get a good grade

the person above basically sums it up, with history it's harder but if you have good support and you get a good revision schedule, then it'll be easier for you: plus you'll have tons more motivation to revise for the subject if you like it. for me i really enjoy learning about nazi germany to the point where i have no problems revising it, so even though it was hard for me in the beginning, i got used to revising it. if it was revising for igneous rocks now that would be a different story...

i do both.

if you’re interested in history genuinely do it, and if you’re not interested DON’T.

i went from getting 4s in history in year 10 to getting top grades in my class in year 11 now and doing it for a level next year

it’s all about how much you care but also it’s about the teacher (we had this awful trainee teacher in year 10 and nobody in our class of like 25 got over a 6 on the end of year, and we go to a pretty tough grammar school so everyone was livid)

if you’re willing to put in the effort to properly understand the course it’s rewarding and pretty easy

but it is A LOT OF WRITING

as for geography, it’s probably one of my easiest subjects and it’s pretty interesting

you don’t go into much depth on any of the topics, as opposed to history it’s more surface level, but you learn about a lot more topics, and a lot of people like the mix of both humanities and also science in the physical part

if you have good problem solving skills / logic i recommend geography because i genuinely think a lot of people could pass a geography gcse without ever revising purely because so much of it is common sense

but also the rumour it’s an easy 9 isn’t really true- i know lots of people that proper grind out geograohy revision and are capped at 6/7, whereas i’ve never revised it in my life and i’ve never got below an 8 and i’m predicted 9.. it genuinely jst is about how much of the content you’re able to pick up and understand

geography is 3 papers whereas history is 2 but that isn’t too important, and in geograohy one of the papers is based off of a pre released booklet and also geographic skills (required trips you go on and data skills)

if it’s possible for you i would recommend taking both since they kind of have some similar skills and some of the content definitely can link depending on what courses your school does

good luck with whatever you do! you’ll do great!

p.s geography isn’t just rocks..!
