Durham Liberal Arts offers

Hi - I applied for Liberal Arts at Durham in October, but haven’t received any reply yet. Does anyone know when they are likely to start giving out offers? And if they take a long time to reply, does this disadvantage me from other offer-holders in choosing my college preferences early?

I applied for MA English literary studies in December and got the offer in January.
They should have been sending out offers (in my view quite generously)

Hiya

Historically, the majority of offers go out in March. Also, the admissions team hope to make decisions on all applications by 29th March.

And no, this does not disadvantage you as when college allocation starts, all names are randomized first. This means that even if you receive an offer later than some other people, you will all be in the same boat when it comes to allocating colleges. More details are here- https://www.dur.ac.uk/colleges-and-student-experience/colleges/your-college---undergraduate/how-the-allocation-process-works-for-undergraduates/

Hope that helps and good luck

Hi I've also applied for Liberal Arts at Durham and I haven't heard anything! I've got 4/5 of my offers but Durham is taking AGESSSS. Should I be concerned?

Hiya!

Offer timelines can vary quite a bit, especially for Liberal Arts, so it’s completely normal not to have heard yet. For Durham University, non-contextual offers for Liberal Arts do tend to come out in batches and can be any time from a few weeks after UCAS submission through to the deadline period, so try not to read too much into the timing.

Loads of applicants every year are in the exact same position of having most of their other offers and just waiting on Durham, so you’re definitely not alone! Courses like Liberal Arts that are small and competitive, and so decisions can take longer than other courses. Keep focusing on your studies and working hard!

Fingers crossed you hear soon 🤞

Where else have you applied? If you were to receive an offer from Durham would that be your top choice?

In the meantime, feel free to ask if you want to know more about Liberal Arts at Durham, the course structure, colleges, or student life 🙂

Hi Lacey! Thank you so much for your reply, that is reassuring to hear. I'm super worried and I can't stop checking my emails haha!

I've got offers from King's Collage London, Edinburgh, Bristol and Exeter, so just waiting to hear from Durham now... Yes Durham is my top choice!

I also applied for an Arts Scholarship so I was wondering how the consideration for that works? Do they look at my scholarship application alongside my academic at the same time? Is that what's delaying me hearing back? Thanks so much

Hi!

Honestly, I was in the exact same position last year so I know how it feels - the constant anticipation and eagerness to hear back. Its dreadful!

Wow - all your uni choices seem excellent - congrats on all your offers! Edinburgh was my insurance last year, and I also applied to Exeter, they are all superb universities!

The key thing to know is that your academic application and your Arts Scholarship application are considered separately.

When you apply to Durham University, your academic department reviews your application and makes its decision independently of scholarship decisions. The Arts Scholarship panel is a separate process, usually involving specialist staff who assess artistic merit.

This is the typical timeline:
🎓 Your academic offer is decided by the department.
🎨 Your scholarship application is assessed separately.
📩 Scholarship outcomes often come later than academic offers.

I unfortunately don't have extensive knowledge on these scholarships and certain programmes so if you’re feeling unsure, it’s completely okay to email admissions, department teams or scholarship teams directly just to check where things are at.

Hope that help! Fingers crossed for both your offer and the scholarship! Let me know if you have any other Durham questions 💜
